Caldwell insurance agent fakes charges to raise commission, officials say

A Caldwell insurance agent lost her license after officials say she added fake items to people's policies to raise her commission.

Eva Bowman, an insurance agent affiliated with Allstate, allegedly admitted to writing non-existent personal property items into her clients' plans, causing customers to be charged for items they didn't own, according to the Idaho Department of Insurance. Because Bowman's item counts were higher, this resulted in a higher commission for her.

Bowman also allegedly didn't include accurate descriptions and values for items, causing some customers to be underinsured, the state says.

“This dishonest practice caused financial harm to insureds by having them pay for insurance on items they did not own and had no insurable interest,” said Dean Cameron, Idaho Department of Insurance director. “We encourage all consumers to carefully review their applications and policies. Contact your agent or the Department of Insurance Consumer Affairs if you have questions or concerns.”

In addition to losing her license, Bowman was charged an administrative fee of $15,000.
